Soft Amish Sugar Cookies Ingredients: 1

Soft Amish Sugar Cookies

Ingredients:

1 cup unsalted butter, softened

1 cup granulated sugar

1 large egg

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

2 cups all-purpose flour

1 teaspoon baking soda

teaspoon cream of tartar

teaspoon salt

Extra granulated sugar for rolling

Directions:

Prepare the Oven and Baking Sheets: Preheat your oven to 350F 175C. Line baking sheets with parchment paper to prevent sticking.

Cream Butter and Sugar: In a large bowl, cream together the softened butter and sugar using a hand mixer or stand mixer until the mixture is light and fluffy.

Incorporate Wet Ingredients: Add the egg and vanilla extract to the butter mixture. Beat until well combined.

Mix the Dry Ingredients: In a separate bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour, baking soda, cream of tartar, and salt.

Combine Wet and Dry Ingredients: Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture, mixing just until a soft dough forms. Avoid overmixing.

Shape the Cookies: Roll the dough into small balls, about 1 inch in diameter. Roll each ball in granulated sugar for a sparkly finish.

Arrange and Flatten: Place the sugar-coated dough balls on the prepared baking sheets, spacing them about 2 inches apart. Lightly flatten each ball using a fork or your fingers.

Bake: Bake in the preheated oven for 810 minutes, or until the edges of the cookies are just beginning to turn golden. Be careful not to overbake, as these cookies should remain soft.

Cool and Serve: Allow the cookies to cool on the baking sheet for a few minutes before transferring them to a wire rack to cool completely. Serve and enjoy these melt-in-your-mouth cookies with friends or as an afternoon treat!
