Classic Molasses Cookies
Ingredients:
cup unsalted butter, softened
1 cup brown sugar, packed
1 large egg
cup molasses
2 cups all-purpose flour
2 teaspoons baking soda
teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1 teaspoon ground ginger
teaspoon ground cloves
cup granulated sugar for rolling
Directions:
Preheat the Oven: Preheat your oven to 350F 175C and line a baking sheet with parchment paper to prevent sticking.
Cream Butter and Sugar: In a large mixing bowl, cream together the softened butter and brown sugar until smooth and fluffy, about 23 minutes.
Add Wet Ingredients: Beat in the egg and molasses, mixing until fully combined.
Mix Dry Ingredients: In a separate bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour, baking soda, salt, cinnamon, ginger, and cloves.
Combine Wet and Dry Ingredients: Gradually add the dry mixture to the wet ingredients, stirring just until the dough forms.
Shape the Cookies: Scoop out small portions of dough and roll into 1-inch balls. Roll each ball in granulated sugar until coated.
Arrange on Baking Sheet: Place the sugared dough balls on the prepared baking sheet, spacing them about 2 inches apart to allow for spreading.
Bake: Bake in the preheated oven for 810 minutes, or until the edges are set and the centers are soft. Be careful not to overbake for a chewy texture.
Cool and Serve: Allow the cookies to cool on the baking sheet for 5 minutes before transferring them to a wire rack to cool completely. Enjoy the warm, spiced flavors with a cup of tea or coffee!
