Homemade Salisbury Steak with Onion Gravy
Ingredients:
For the Salisbury Steak Patties:
1 lb ground beef 80/20 recommended
cup breadcrumbs
1 egg
1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
1 teaspoon Dijon mustard
teaspoon garlic powder
teaspoon onion powder
teaspoon salt
teaspoon black pepper
1 tablespoon olive oil for frying
For the Onion Gravy:
1 tablespoon butter
1 large onion, thinly sliced
2 cups beef broth
1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
1 teaspoon Dijon mustard
1 tablespoon cornstarch 2 tablespoons water slurry
Salt and black pepper to taste
Directions:
Prepare the Salisbury Steak Patties:
In a large bowl, mix ground beef, breadcrumbs, egg, Worcestershire sauce, mustard, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and black pepper.
Shape into 4 oval patties.
Sear the Patties:
Heat olive oil in a skillet over medium-high heat.
Cook the patties for 3-4 minutes per side until browned.
Remove and set aside.
Make the Onion Gravy:
In the same skillet, melt butter and sauté onions until soft and caramelized about 8 minutes.
Pour in beef broth, Worcestershire sauce, and mustard, scraping up browned bits.
Stir in the cornstarch slurry and simmer until thickened.
Simmer the Patties in Gravy:
Return patties to the skillet, spooning gravy over the top.
Simmer on low heat for 10 minutes until fully cooked.
Serve hot with mashed potatoes or rice.
