The Best Chicken Fried Steak
Ingredients:
4 beef cube steaks about 1/2-inch thick
1 cup buttermilk
1 large egg
1 cup all-purpose flour
1 tsp garlic powder
1 tsp onion powder
1/2 tsp paprika
Salt and pepper to taste
Vegetable oil for frying
For the gravy:
2 tbsp butter
2 tbsp all-purpose flour
1 1/2 cups milk
Salt and pepper to taste
Instructions:
In a shallow bowl, mix buttermilk and egg. Season the steaks with salt and pepper, then dip each steak in the buttermilk mixture, followed by the flour mixture, pressing to coat well.
Heat oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Fry the steaks in batches for about 4-5 minutes per side, or until golden brown and crispy.
Remove the steaks from the skillet and set them on a paper towel-lined plate to drain excess oil.
For the gravy, melt butter in the same skillet, whisk in the flour, and cook for 1 minute. Slowly add the milk, whisking until smooth. Simmer for 5-7 minutes, seasoning with salt and pepper.
Serve the chicken fried steaks with gravy on top.
