Sponge Cake Recipe
Ingrédients
4 large eggs room temperature
1 cup granulated sugar
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1 cup all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon baking powder
teaspoon salt
cup unsalted butter melted and slightly cooled
Powdered sugar for dusting, optional
Instructions
Preheat the Oven:
Preheat your oven to 350F 175C. Grease and flour an 8-inch round cake pan or line it with parchment paper.
Whip the Eggs:
In a large mixing bowl, beat the eggs with an electric mixer on high speed for about 5-7 minutes, until they are thick and pale. Gradually add the granulated sugar and vanilla extract while continuing to beat until well combined.
Combine Dry Ingredients:
In another bowl, sift together the flour, baking powder, and salt.
Fold Dry Ingredients:
Gently fold the dry ingredients into the egg mixture in three additions. Be careful not to deflate the batter.
Add Butter:
Drizzle the melted butter around the edges of the batter and fold it in gently until just combined.
Bake:
Pour the batter into the prepared cake pan and smooth the top. Bake for 25-30 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
Cool:
Let the cake cool in the pan for about 10 minutes, then transfer it to a wire rack to cool completely.
Serve:
Once cooled, dust the top with powdered sugar if desired. This sponge cake can be served plain, with whipped cream, fresh fruit, or your favorite frosting.
Tips:
Ensure your eggs are at room temperature for better volume.
Be gentle when folding in the flour to keep the batter light and airy.
You can also flavor the cake by adding lemon zest or almond extract to the batter!
Enjoy your delicious homemade sponge cake!
