Ingredients:

1 cups all-purpose flour

cup unsalted butter, softened

cup unsweetened cocoa powder

cup brown sugar

1 egg

1 tsp red food coloring

cup chocolate chips

tsp baking soda

tsp salt

1 tsp vanilla extract

cup chocolate chips for second dough

Instructions:

Step 1: Prepare the Red Velvet Dough

In a mixing bowl, combine the flour, cocoa powder, baking soda, and salt. In a separate large bowl, cream together the softened butter, brown sugar, and granulated sugar until fluffy. Next, add the egg, vanilla extract, and red food coloring, mixing until everything is well incorporated. Gradually fold in the dry mixture until just combined. Finally, gently stir in half a cup of chocolate chips. Cover the bowl with plastic wrap and chill in the refrigerator for 30 minutes.

Step 2: Create the Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough

In another mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, baking soda, and salt. In a separate bowl, cream the softened butter with the brown sugar and granulated sugar until you achieve a light and airy texture. Mix in the egg and vanilla extract until you have a smooth mixture. Gradually add the dry ingredients, mixing until incorporated, then fold in the remaining cup of chocolate chips. Cover and chill in the refrigerator for 30 minutes.

Step 3: Form the Cookies

Preheat your oven to 350F 175C. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper. Take one tablespoon of the chilled red velvet dough and one tablespoon of the chocolate chip dough. Press them together gently, then roll them into a ball. Slightly flatten the ball and place it on the prepared baking sheet, ensuring you leave space between each dough ball. For a bakery-style finish, press a few extra chocolate chips on top of each cookie.

Step 4: Bake and Cool

Bake the cookies in the preheated oven for about 10-12 minutes, or until the edges are set while the centers remain soft. Allow them to cool on the baking sheet for 5 minutes before transferring to a wire rack to cool completely.
