Patty Melt with Secret Sauce
Ingredients:
For the Patty Melt:
1 lb ground beef
1/2 tsp salt
1/4 tsp black pepper
1 tbsp olive oil
8 slices rye bread
4 slices Swiss cheese
1 small onion, thinly sliced
2 tbsp butter for grilling
For the Secret Sauce:
1/4 cup mayonnaise
2 tbsp ketchup
1 tbsp yellow mustard
1 tsp pickle juice optional for extra tang
1/2 tsp garlic powder
1/2 tsp onion powder
1/4 tsp smoked paprika
Directions:
Preheat a large skillet or griddle over medium heat.
In a bowl, mix together the ground beef, salt, and pepper. Divide the mixture into 4 equal portions and shape them into patties.
In a separate small bowl, combine all the ingredients for the secret sauce. Mix until smooth and set aside.
Heat the olive oil in the skillet. Add the patties and cook for 4-5 minutes on each side, or until they reach your desired level of doneness.
While the patties are cooking, sauté the onions in the same skillet until softened and caramelized, about 5-7 minutes. Remove from the skillet and set aside.
Once the patties are done, remove them from the skillet. Butter one side of each slice of rye bread.
To assemble the patty melts, place a slice of cheese on the unbuttered side of a slice of bread. Add the cooked patty, caramelized onions, and a generous spread of secret sauce. Top with another slice of cheese and the second slice of bread, buttered side facing out.
Grill the sandwich in the skillet over medium heat for 3-4 minutes on each side, or until golden brown and the cheese is melted.
Remove from the skillet, slice in half, and serve with extra secret sauce for dipping.
