Mrs. Claus Merry Wink Cookies
Sweet, jolly, and full of holiday charm, these delightful cookies are perfect for festive gatherings or gifting!
Ingredients:
For the Sugar Cookies:
2 cups all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon baking powder
teaspoon salt
1 cup unsalted butter, softened
1 cup granulated sugar
1 large egg
2 teaspoons vanilla extract
For Royal Icing:
4 cups powdered sugar
3 tablespoons meringue powder
56 tablespoons water
Gel food coloring: red, green, black, peach or soft pink, and white
For Decorations:
Small holly leaf and berry fondant pieces or create with icing
Piping bags with small round tips
Edible markers optional, for fine details
Directions:
Step 1: Make the Cookies
Mix Dry Ingredients:
In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt. Set aside.
Cream Butter and Sugar:
In a large bowl, use a mixer to cream the softened butter and sugar until light and fluffy about 2 minutes.
Add Wet Ingredients:
Beat in the egg and vanilla extract until fully combined.
Combine Dough:
Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture, mixing until a soft dough forms.
Chill:
Shape the dough into a disc, wrap in plastic wrap, and refrigerate for at least 1 hour.
Cut Shapes:
Preheat the oven to 350F 175C. Roll out the dough on a floured surface to -inch thickness.
Use a scalloped round cookie cutter to cut out shapes.
Bake:
Arrange cookies on a parchment-lined baking sheet and bake for 1012 minutes, or until edges are lightly golden.
Let cool completely before decorating.
Step 2: Prepare the Royal Icing
Mix Icing:
In a large bowl, combine powdered sugar, meringue powder, and water. Beat on low speed, then increase to medium-high until stiff peaks form.
Divide and Color:
Separate icing into bowls and tint using gel food coloring:
White: for hair and base
Red: for lips and berries
Green: for holly leaves
Black: for eyes
Peach/pink: for the face
Adjust Consistency:
Thin the icing with small amounts of water for flooding smooth coverage. Keep some thicker for detailed piping.
Step 3: Decorate the Cookies
Base Layer:
Outline and flood the center of the cookie with peach-colored icing to create Mrs. Claus face. Let dry slightly.
Add Hair:
Pipe white royal icing around the edges for her curly hair. Use a star tip for a textured look or smooth for a clean finish.
Facial Features:
Eyes: Add two small black dots or pipe with royal icing.
Cheeks: Pipe small dots of peach icing for rosy cheeks.
Smile: Pipe a red curve for Mrs. Claus smile.
Holly Decorations:
Pipe green holly leaves at the top of the cookie and add red berries. You can also use pre-made fondant holly pieces.
Optional Details:
Use edible markers to draw finer features like eyelashes, eyebrows, or additional accents.
Dry:
Allow the cookies to dry completely before serving or packaging.
