Grilled Steak Sandwich with Caramelized Onions

Grilled Steak Sandwich with Caramelized Onions and Melted Cheese

Ingredients:

1 lb ribeye or sirloin steak

1 tablespoon olive oil

1 teaspoon salt

teaspoon black pepper

teaspoon garlic powder

teaspoon smoked paprika

1 large onion, thinly sliced

1 tablespoon butter

1 teaspoon balsamic vinegar

4 sandwich rolls or ciabatta buns

4 slices provolone, Swiss, or cheddar cheese

2 tablespoons mayonnaise

1 tablespoon Dijon mustard

1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce

1 cup arugula or baby spinach optional

Directions:

Preheat a grill or grill pan to medium-high heat.

Rub the steak with olive oil, salt, black pepper, garlic powder, and smoked paprika. Let sit for 10 minutes.

Grill the steak for 3-4 minutes per side for medium-rare or to your desired doneness. Remove and let it rest for 5 minutes, then slice thinly against the grain.

While the steak is resting, melt butter in a pan over medium heat. Add the sliced onions and cook for 10-15 minutes, stirring occasionally, until golden and caramelized. Stir in balsamic vinegar and cook for 1 more minute.

In a small bowl, mix mayonnaise, Dijon mustard, and Worcestershire sauce. Spread onto the sandwich rolls.

Layer sliced steak on the rolls, top with caramelized onions and a slice of cheese. Toast or broil the sandwiches for 1-2 minutes until the cheese melts.

Add arugula or baby spinach if using. Serve warm and enjoy!
