Classic Funnel Cake
Ingredients:
1 cups all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon baking powder
teaspoon salt
2 tablespoons granulated sugar
2 large eggs
1 cup milk
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
Vegetable oil, for frying
Powdered sugar, for dusting
Directions:
Prepare the Batter: In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, salt, and sugar. In a separate bowl, whisk the eggs, milk, and vanilla extract. Gradually add the wet ingredients to the dry ingredients, whisking until smooth and lump-free.
Heat the Oil: In a large, deep skillet or saucepan, heat about 1 inches of vegetable oil over medium heat until it reaches 375F 190C.
Create the Funnel Cake Shape: Transfer the batter into a large squeeze bottle, pastry bag, or use a funnel to control the batter flow. Hold the funnel or bottle over the hot oil and carefully squeeze or drizzle the batter into the oil in a circular, swirling motion, creating a web-like pattern.
Fry the Funnel Cake: Fry each funnel cake for about 2-3 minutes per side, or until golden brown and crispy. Use tongs or a slotted spoon to carefully flip and fry the other side.
Drain and Cool: Once cooked, remove the funnel cake from the oil and place it on a paper towel-lined plate to drain any excess oil.
Dust with Powdered Sugar: Generously dust the warm funnel cakes with powdered sugar for a sweet finish.
Serve and Enjoy: Funnel cakes are best enjoyed warm and fresh. Serve with your favorite toppings such as whipped cream, chocolate syrup, or fresh fruit, if desired.
