Chef Johns Lasagna
Ingredients:
1 lb ground beef
1/2 lb Italian sausage optional, can substitute with more ground beef
1 onion, chopped
2 cloves garlic, minced
1 can 28 oz crushed tomatoes
1 can 6 oz tomato paste
1 tablespoon dried basil
1 teaspoon dried oregano
12 lasagna noodles, cooked and drained
2 cups ricotta cheese
2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese
1 large egg
1 tablespoon chopped fresh parsley
1 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon black pepper
Instructions:
Preheat oven to 375F 190C. Grease a 9×13-inch baking dish.
In a large skillet, cook ground beef, Italian sausage, onion, and garlic over medium heat until browned. Drain excess fat. Stir in crushed tomatoes, tomato paste, basil, oregano, salt, and pepper. Simmer for 30 minutes.
In a bowl, combine ricotta cheese, egg, 1/4 cup Parmesan cheese, fresh parsley, and a pinch of salt and pepper.
Layer the lasagna: spread a thin layer of meat sauce on the bottom of the dish, followed by lasagna noodles, ricotta mixture, mozzarella, and Parmesan. Repeat layers until all ingredients are used, ending with mozzarella and Parmesan on top.
Cover with foil and bake for 25 minutes. Remove foil and bake for an additional 15 minutes until cheese is bubbly and golden.
Let the lasagna cool for 10 minutes before slicing and serving.
