Bacon and Cheese-Stuffed Tater Tots

Ingredients:

3 cups frozen tater tots, thawed

1/2 cup shredded cheddar cheese

1/4 cup mozzarella cheese, shredded

4 strips crispy bacon, crumbled

1/2 teaspoon garlic powder

1/2 teaspoon onion powder

1/4 teaspoon black pepper

1 tablespoon flour optional, for binding

1 egg, beaten

1/2 cup panko breadcrumbs

1/2 teaspoon salt

Cooking spray or oil for frying

Directions:

Prepare the Filling:

In a bowl, mix cheddar cheese, mozzarella cheese, and crumbled bacon. Set aside.

Mash the Tater Tots:

Place thawed tater tots in a mixing bowl and mash them with a fork or potato masher until smooth.

Add garlic powder, onion powder, black pepper, and flour if using. Mix well.

Form the Tater Tots:

Scoop about 1 tablespoon of mashed tater tots into your hand, flatten it, and place a small pinch of the cheese and bacon mixture in the center.

Carefully shape the tater tot around the filling, rolling it into a ball or log.

Coat and Cook:

Dip each stuffed tater tot in the beaten egg, then coat with panko breadcrumbs.

Place the coated tater tots on a tray and freeze for 15-20 minutes to help them hold their shape.

Heat oil in a deep fryer or skillet over medium-high heat. Fry the tater tots for 3-4 minutes until golden and crispy. Alternatively, bake at 400F 200C for 20 minutes, flipping halfway through.

Serve:

Drain on paper towels and sprinkle with salt while still hot. Serve with dipping sauces like ranch, ketchup, or spicy mayo.
