Szechuan Beef Stir-Fry
Ingredients:
1 lb 450g flank steak, thinly sliced
2 tablespoons cornstarch
2 tablespoons vegetable oil
3 cloves garlic, minced
1 tablespoon fresh ginger, grated
1 red bell pepper, sliced
1 green bell pepper, sliced
1 small onion, sliced
2 green onions, chopped
1 teaspoon sesame seeds for garnish
Szechuan Sauce:
3 tablespoons soy sauce
1 tablespoon hoisin sauce
1 tablespoon rice vinegar
1 tablespoon Szechuan peppercorns, toasted & crushed
1 teaspoon red pepper flakes adjust to taste
1 teaspoon chili paste or Sriracha
1 teaspoon brown sugar
teaspoon sesame oil
Directions:
Prepare the Beef: Toss the thinly sliced flank steak with cornstarch in a bowl. Let sit for 10 minutes.
Make the Szechuan Sauce: In a small bowl, mix soy sauce, hoisin sauce, rice vinegar, Szechuan peppercorns, red pepper flakes, chili paste, brown sugar, and sesame oil. Set aside.
Cook the Beef: Heat 1 tablespoon of vegetable oil in a large skillet or wok over high heat. Add the beef and stir-fry for 3-4 minutes until browned and slightly crispy. Remove from pan and set aside.
Stir-Fry the Veggies: Add another tablespoon of oil to the pan. Stir-fry the garlic, ginger, bell peppers, and onion for 2-3 minutes until slightly softened.
Combine & Toss: Return the beef to the pan, pour in the Szechuan sauce, and toss everything together. Cook for another 2 minutes until heated through and coated in sauce.
Garnish & Serve: Sprinkle with chopped green onions and sesame seeds. Serve hot with steamed rice or noodles. Enjoy!
