Stuffed Cabbage Rolls with Tomato Sauce
Ingredients:
1 large cabbage head
500g ground beef or lamb
1/2 cup cooked rice
1 small onion, finely chopped
2 garlic cloves, minced
1/4 cup parsley, chopped
1/4 cup pine nuts optional
Salt and black pepper to taste
For the Sauce:
2 cups tomato puree
1 small onion, finely chopped
2 garlic cloves, minced
1 tablespoon olive oil
1 teaspoon sugar
Salt and pepper to taste
Instructions:
1. Prepare the Cabbage Leaves:
Remove the core from the cabbage and boil the whole head in salted water for 5-7 minutes. Separate the leaves gently and set aside.
2. Make the Filling:
In a bowl, combine ground beef, rice, onion, garlic, parsley, pine nuts, salt, and pepper. Mix well.
3. Assemble the Rolls:
Place a spoonful of filling onto each cabbage leaf, fold in the sides, and roll tightly.
4. Prepare the Sauce:
Heat olive oil in a pan, sauté onion and garlic until fragrant. Add tomato puree, sugar, salt, and pepper. Simmer for 10 minutes.
5. Cook the Rolls:
Place the stuffed rolls seam-side down in a baking dish. Pour the tomato sauce over the rolls, cover, and bake in a preheated oven at 180C 350F for 45-50 minutes.
6. Garnish:
Sprinkle with chopped parsley and pine nuts before serving.
