Ingredients:
– 1 cup fresh strawberries, sliced
– 1 egg, beaten for egg wash
– 4 ounces cream cheese, softened
– 2 tablespoons powdered sugar
– 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
– 1 sheet puff pastry, thawed
– Optional: extra powdered sugar for dusting
Instructions:
1. Preheat your oven to 400F 200C and line a baking sheet with parchment paper to prevent sticking.
2. Roll out the thawed puff pastry sheet on a lightly floured surface. Use a heart-shaped cookie cutter to cut out several heart shapes, placing half of them on the prepared baking sheet.
3. In a small bowl, combine the softened cream cheese, powdered sugar, and vanilla extract. Mix until the filling is smooth and creamy.
4. Spoon a generous amount of the cream cheese mixture onto each heart on the baking sheet, leaving a small border around the edges for sealing.
5. Top the cream cheese with the sliced strawberries, arranging them nicely.
6. Place the remaining heart shapes on top of the filled hearts and gently press the edges to seal them well.
7. Brush the tops of the hearts with the beaten egg to give them a beautiful golden color when baked.
8. Bake in the preheated oven for 15-18 minutes, or until the pastry is puffed up and golden brown.
9. Once baked, allow them to cool slightly before dusting with optional powdered sugar for an extra touch of sweetness.
10. Serve these delightful pastries warm or at room temperature, and watch everyone fall in love with their charm!
