Saltine Toffee Recipe
Ingredients:
4 ounces saltine crackers about 3540 crackers
1 cup unsalted butter
1 cup dark brown sugar
2 cups semisweet chocolate chips
cup chopped pecans
Directions:
Preheat the Oven:
Preheat your oven to 400F 200C.
Prepare the Baking Sheet:
Line a rimmed baking sheet with parchment paper or foil for easy cleanup. Arrange the saltine crackers in a single layer, covering the entire surface.
Make the Toffee Mixture:
In a saucepan, combine the butter and dark brown sugar.
Bring the mixture to a boil over medium heat, stirring occasionally. Let it boil for 3 minutes without stirring, ensuring a smooth caramel.
Pour the Toffee:
Immediately pour the hot toffee mixture over the saltine crackers, spreading it evenly with a spatula to cover all the crackers.
Bake the Toffee:
Place the baking sheet in the preheated oven and bake for 56 minutes, or until the caramel is bubbling and golden.
Add the Chocolate:
Remove the baking sheet from the oven. Sprinkle the semisweet chocolate chips over the hot toffee.
Let the chocolate sit for 5 minutes to melt, then spread it evenly over the caramel layer using a spatula.
Top with Pecans:
Sprinkle the chopped pecans over the melted chocolate for added flavor and crunch.
Cool and Break:
Allow the toffee to cool completely at room temperature, about 25 minutes. For faster cooling, place it in the refrigerator.
Once cooled, break the toffee into irregular pieces.
