Salted Caramel Rice Krispie Treats
Ingredients:
For the Rice Krispie Layer:
5 tablespoons unsalted butter
10 ounces marshmallows
5 cups Rice Krispies cereal
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
For the Caramel Layer:
10 ounces soft caramels, unwrapped
1 14-ounce can sweetened condensed milk
5 tablespoons unsalted butter
Sea salt, for sprinkling
For the Chocolate Drizzle:
6 ounces milk chocolate chips
cup heavy cream
Directions:
Prepare the Pan: Lightly butter a 9×13-inch baking dish to prevent sticking.
Make the Rice Krispie Layer:
In a large saucepan over medium heat, melt 5 tablespoons of butter.
Add the marshmallows to the melted butter, stirring continuously until fully melted and smooth.
Remove the saucepan from heat and stir in the vanilla extract.
In a large mixing bowl, combine the Rice Krispies cereal with the marshmallow mixture, stirring until the cereal is evenly coated.
Transfer the mixture to the prepared baking dish, pressing it down evenly to form a flat layer. Set aside.
Prepare the Caramel Layer:
In a separate saucepan over medium heat, combine the unwrapped caramels, sweetened condensed milk, and 5 tablespoons of butter.
Stir the mixture continuously until the caramels and butter are fully melted and the mixture is smooth.
Pour the caramel mixture over the Rice Krispie layer, spreading it evenly.
Lightly sprinkle sea salt over the caramel layer to taste.
Allow the caramel layer to cool and set for about 15 minutes.
Create the Chocolate Drizzle:
In a small saucepan, heat the heavy cream over medium heat until it just begins to simmer.
Place the milk chocolate chips in a heatproof bowl.
Pour the hot cream over the chocolate chips, letting it sit for a minute to melt the chocolate.
Stir the mixture until smooth and glossy.
Allow the chocolate mixture to cool slightly, then drizzle it over the caramel layer.
Final Touches:
Sprinkle additional sea salt over the top, if desired.
Let the treats cool completely at room temperature before cutting into squares.
