Ingredients:
– 2 cups warm water
– 4 cups bread flour
– 1 tablespoon sugar
– 1 tablespoon salt
– 2 teaspoons active dry yeast
– 2 tablespoons honey for boiling
– Sesame seeds for topping
– Poppy seeds for topping
Instructions:
1. Begin by activating the yeast. In a bowl, mix the warm water with sugar and sprinkle the yeast on top. Let it sit for about 10 minutes until frothy.
2. In a large mixing bowl, combine the bread flour and salt. Once the yeast mixture is ready, pour it into the flour mixture.
3. Stir with a wooden spoon until a dough forms, then turn it out onto a lightly floured surface. Knead the dough for about 10 minutes, or until it becomes smooth and elastic.
4. Place the kneaded dough into a greased bowl, cover it with a damp cloth, and let it rise in a warm area for about 1 hour, or until it doubles in size.
5. Once the dough has risen, punch it down and divide it into 10 equal pieces. Roll each piece into a ball, then use your thumb to create a hole in the center, stretching it gently to form a ring.
6. Preheat your oven to 425F 220C and bring a large pot of water to a boil. Add the honey to the boiling water.
7. Boil each bagel for about 1 minute on each side. This not only helps achieve that chewy texture but also adds flavor.
8. After boiling, place the bagels on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Sprinkle sesame seeds and poppy seeds on top according to your taste.
9. Bake in the preheated oven for 20 minutes, or until they are golden brown.
10. Once baked, remove from the oven and let them cool on a wire rack before enjoying!
