Homemade Chocolate Cake

Ingredients

For the Cake:

1 3/4 cups 220g all-purpose flour

1 1/2 cups 300g granulated sugar

3/4 cup 65g unsweetened cocoa powder

1 1/2 tsp baking powder

1 1/2 tsp baking soda

1/2 tsp salt

2 large eggs

1 cup 240ml whole milk

1/2 cup 120ml vegetable oil

2 tsp vanilla extract

1 cup 240ml boiling water

For the Frosting:

1 cup 230g unsalted butter, softened

3 1/2 cups 440g powdered sugar

1/2 cup 45g unsweetened cocoa powder

1/4 cup 60ml milk


2 tsp vanilla extract

Instructions

Preheat the Oven:

Heat your oven to 350F 175C. Grease and flour two 9-inch round cake pans, or line them with parchment paper.

Mix the Dry Ingredients:

In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.

Combine Wet Ingredients:

Add the eggs, milk, vegetable oil, and vanilla extract to the dry ingredients. Beat on medium speed until smooth. Stir in the boiling water until the batter is smooth and slightly thin.

Bake:

Divide the batter evenly between the prepared pans. Bake for 30-35 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.

Cool:

Let the cakes cool in the pans for 10 minutes, then remove them from the pans and let them cool completely on a wire rack.

Make the Frosting:

In a bowl, beat the butter until creamy. Gradually add the powdered sugar and cocoa powder, mixing on low speed until well combined. Add the milk and vanilla extract, and beat on high speed until the frosting becomes light and fluffy.

Frost the Cake:

Once the cakes have completely cooled, spread frosting on top of one cake layer. Place the second layer on top, and frost the entire cake.
