Creamy Homemade Buttermints
Ingredients:
1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
4 cups powdered sugar, sifted plus extra for dusting
2 tablespoons heavy cream
1/2 teaspoon peppermint extract or your preferred flavor
Gel food coloring optional
Directions:
Mix the Dough:
In a large mixing bowl, beat the softened butter with an electric mixer until smooth and creamy.
Gradually add the powdered sugar, one cup at a time, alternating with the heavy cream. Beat until the mixture forms a thick, smooth dough.
Add Flavor and Color:
Mix in the peppermint extract, ensuring its evenly distributed throughout the dough.
If using food coloring, divide the dough into portions and knead in a few drops of gel food coloring until the color is uniform.
Shape the Mints:
Lightly dust a clean surface with powdered sugar. Roll each portion of dough into long, thin ropes about 1/2 inch in diameter.
Use a sharp knife to cut the ropes into small, bite-sized pieces.
Dry and Set:
Arrange the cut mints on a parchment-lined baking sheet, ensuring they do not touch.
Let the mints dry at room temperature for 12-24 hours until firm.
Store and Enjoy:
Transfer the dried mints to an airtight container. Store at room temperature for up to two weeks.
