Chocolate Babka
Ingredients:
For the dough:
4 cups all-purpose flour
1/3 cup sugar
2 1/4 tsp active dry yeast
1/2 tsp salt
3/4 cup whole milk, warmed
3 large eggs
1 tsp vanilla extract
10 tbsp unsalted butter, softened
For the filling:
1 cup semi-sweet chocolate, melted
1/4 cup cocoa powder
1/2 cup sugar
1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted
For the topping:
1/4 cup sugar
2 tbsp water
Instructions:
In a large bowl, mix flour, sugar, yeast, and salt. Gradually add warm milk, eggs, vanilla, and softened butter. Knead until a smooth dough forms. Cover and let rise for 1-2 hours or until doubled in size.
Roll the dough into a 12×16-inch rectangle. Spread melted chocolate evenly and sprinkle cocoa powder, sugar, and melted butter on top.
Roll the dough tightly into a log and slice lengthwise down the center. Twist the two halves together and place into a greased loaf pan.
Let the dough rise again for 45 minutes. Preheat oven to 350F 175C.
Bake for 35-40 minutes until golden brown. Meanwhile, heat sugar and water until dissolved for the syrup.
Brush the warm babka with syrup for a glossy finish. Cool before slicing.
Enjoy the rich, chocolatey swirls in every bite!
