Amish Onion Fritters
Ingredients:
2 large onions, thinly sliced
1 cup all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon baking powder
1 teaspoon salt
teaspoon black pepper
teaspoon garlic powder
teaspoon paprika
1 tablespoon sugar
cup milk
1 egg, beaten
Vegetable oil for frying
Directions:
In a large mixing bowl, combine flour, baking powder, salt, black pepper, garlic powder, paprika, and sugar.
Add the sliced onions and toss to coat them in the flour mixture.
Stir in the milk and beaten egg, mixing until a thick batter forms.
Heat about inch of vegetable oil in a heavy skillet over medium heat.
Drop spoonfuls of the batter into the hot oil, pressing down slightly to flatten.
Fry for 2-3 minutes per side until golden brown and crispy.
Remove and drain on a paper towel-lined plate.
Serve warm with your favorite dipping sauce, such as ranch or a spicy aioli.
