Fried Cabbage with Bacon, Onion & Garlic
Ingredients:
1 medium head of green cabbage, chopped
6 slices bacon, chopped
1 medium onion, sliced
3 cloves garlic, minced
1 teaspoon smoked paprika
teaspoon salt or to taste
teaspoon black pepper
teaspoon red pepper flakes optional, for heat
1 tablespoon apple cider vinegar optional, for extra tang
Directions:
Cook the Bacon: In a large skillet over medium heat, cook the chopped bacon until crispy. Remove with a slotted spoon and set aside, leaving the bacon grease in the skillet.
Sauté the Onion & Garlic: In the same skillet, add the sliced onion and cook for 2-3 minutes until softened. Add the minced garlic and cook for another 30 seconds until fragrant.
Add the Cabbage: Toss in the chopped cabbage, stirring well to coat in the bacon grease. Cook for about 10 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the cabbage starts to soften and brown slightly.
Season & Finish: Sprinkle in smoked paprika, salt, black pepper, and red pepper flakes if using. Stir well and let cook for another 5 minutes until the cabbage is tender and slightly caramelized.
Mix in Bacon & Serve: Return the crispy bacon to the skillet, toss everything together, and add apple cider vinegar for extra depth of flavor. Serve hot and enjoy!
