Sweet and Tangy Hawaiian Pineapple Sloppy

Sweet and Tangy Hawaiian Pineapple Sloppy Joes

Ingredients:

1 lb ground beef or ground turkey for a leaner option

1 cup crushed pineapple drained

1/2 cup barbecue sauce

1/4 cup ketchup

1 tablespoon soy sauce

1 small onion, finely chopped

2 cloves garlic, minced

1 tablespoon olive oil

1 teaspoon smoked paprika

1/2 teaspoon ground black pepper

1/2 teaspoon salt

4 hamburger buns preferably toasted

1 cup shredded lettuce optional

4 slices of Swiss cheese optional

Fresh cilantro for garnish optional

Directions:

Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add the chopped onion and minced garlic and sauté until the onion is soft and translucent, about 3-4 minutes.

Add the ground beef or turkey to the skillet. Cook, breaking it apart with a spoon, until browned and fully cooked through.

Stir in the crushed pineapple, barbecue sauce, ketchup, soy sauce, smoked paprika, salt, and pepper. Mix well and bring to a simmer.

Reduce heat to low and let the mixture cook for 10 minutes, allowing the flavors to meld and the sauce to thicken.

Toast the hamburger buns until golden brown.

Spoon a generous portion of the sloppy joe mixture onto each bottom bun. Top with shredded lettuce, Swiss cheese, and fresh cilantro if desired.

Cover with the top bun and serve warm.
