Oven Braised Beer Brats with Caramelized

Oven Braised Beer Brats with Caramelized Onions

Ingredients:

6 bratwurst sausages

2 tablespoons olive oil

2 large onions, thinly sliced

3 cloves garlic, minced

1 teaspoon salt

teaspoon black pepper

1 teaspoon brown sugar

1 teaspoon Dijon mustard

12 oz 1 bottle beer lager or pilsner recommended

1 tablespoon unsalted butter

6 brat buns or hoagie rolls

Optional toppings: sauerkraut, stone-ground mustard, shredded cheese

Directions:

Preheat the oven to 375F 190C.

In a large oven-safe skillet or Dutch oven, heat olive oil over medium heat. Add sliced onions and cook for 10 minutes until softened.

Stir in garlic, salt, pepper, and brown sugar. Cook for another 5-7 minutes until onions are deeply golden and caramelized.

Add Dijon mustard and pour in the beer, scraping up any browned bits from the bottom. Bring to a simmer.

Nestle the bratwurst into the skillet with the onions. Cover and transfer to the oven.

Bake for 25-30 minutes, then remove the lid and bake for another 10 minutes to allow the brats to brown slightly.

Stir in butter for a rich finish. Serve the brats on toasted buns, topping with caramelized onions and additional toppings of choice.
