Steak Frites The Best Crispy Fries and Juicy Steak
Ingredients:
For the Steak:
2 ribeye or sirloin steaks about 1 inch thick
1 tbsp olive oil
1 tbsp butter
2 cloves garlic, smashed
1 tsp salt
tsp black pepper
1 tsp fresh thyme or rosemary optional
For the Crispy Fries:
2 large russet potatoes, cut into fries
2 tbsp cornstarch
1 tsp salt
tsp black pepper
tsp garlic powder
tsp smoked paprika
Vegetable oil for frying
For the Garlic Butter Sauce Optional:
3 tbsp unsalted butter
2 cloves garlic, minced
1 tsp chopped parsley
tsp lemon juice
Directions:
Prepare the Fries:
Soak the potato fries in cold water for at least 30 minutes to remove excess starch. Drain and pat dry.
Toss fries with cornstarch, salt, black pepper, garlic powder, and smoked paprika.
Heat vegetable oil in a deep fryer or heavy pan to 350F 175C. Fry potatoes in batches for 3-4 minutes until lightly golden. Remove and drain on paper towels.
Increase oil temperature to 375F 190C and fry again for another 2-3 minutes until crispy and golden brown.
Cook the Steak:
Heat olive oil in a cast-iron skillet over high heat.
Pat steaks dry and season with salt and black pepper.
Sear steaks for 3-4 minutes per side for medium-rare. Reduce heat to medium-low, add butter, garlic, and herbs. Baste the steaks with melted butter for another 1-2 minutes.
Remove from heat and let rest for 5 minutes before slicing.
Make the Garlic Butter Sauce Optional:
Melt butter in a small pan over medium heat.
Add minced garlic and cook for 1 minute until fragrant.
Stir in parsley and lemon juice, then drizzle over the steak.
Serve & Enjoy:
Serve the steak with crispy fries on the side.
Garnish with extra parsley and serve with your favorite dipping sauce.
