Seared Steak with Gravy and Mashed Potatoes
Ingredients:
For the Steak:
2 ribeye or sirloin steaks
2 tbsp olive oil
Salt and black pepper to taste
For the Gravy:
2 tbsp unsalted butter
2 tbsp all-purpose flour
1 cup beef broth
1/2 cup heavy cream optional
Salt and black pepper to taste
For the Mashed Potatoes:
4 large potatoes, peeled and cubed
1/4 cup butter
1/2 cup milk or cream
Salt and black pepper to taste
Instructions:
1. Prepare the Mashed Potatoes:
Boil the potatoes in salted water until tender, about 15-20 minutes. Drain.
Mash the potatoes with butter, milk, salt, and pepper until smooth. Keep warm.
2. Cook the Steak:
Heat olive oil in a skillet over medium-high heat.
Season the steaks with salt and pepper.
Sear each side for 3-4 minutes for medium-rare or adjust to your desired doneness.
Remove steaks from the skillet and let them rest.
3. Make the Gravy:
In the same skillet, melt butter and whisk in the flour. Cook for 1-2 minutes.
Slowly add the beef broth while whisking continuously.
Add cream if using and simmer until thickened. Season with salt and pepper.
4. Assemble the Dish:
Slice the steak and place over a bed of mashed potatoes.
Drizzle with gravy and garnish with fresh parsley.
