Grandmas Classic Cornbread Dressing
Ingredients:
1/2 cup butter 1 stick
1 cup chopped onion
1 cup chopped celery
4 cups crumbled cornbread use homemade or store-bought
4 cups dried white bread, cubed
2 cups chicken broth plus extra as needed
2 large eggs, beaten
1 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon ground sage
1/2 teaspoon black pepper
1/2 teaspoon poultry seasoning optional
Fresh parsley, chopped for garnish, optional
Directions:
Preheat Oven: Preheat your oven to 350F 175C. Grease a 9×13-inch baking dish and set aside.
Sauté Vegetables: In a large skillet, melt the butter over medium heat. Add the chopped onion and celery, cooking until softened about 5-7 minutes. Remove from heat.
Combine Breads: In a large mixing bowl, combine the crumbled cornbread and dried white bread cubes.
Add Broth and Seasonings: Add the sautéed onions and celery to the bread mixture. Gradually pour in the chicken broth, stirring until the mixture is moistened but not too soupy. Stir in the beaten eggs, salt, sage, pepper, and poultry seasoning if using. Mix until well combined, adjusting seasoning to taste.
Bake: Transfer the dressing mixture to the prepared baking dish, spreading it evenly. Bake uncovered in the preheated oven for 30-40 minutes, or until the top is golden brown and the dressing is set.
Garnish and Serve: Remove from oven, let cool slightly, and garnish with fresh parsley if desired. Serve warm as a perfect side to your favorite holiday meal!
