Mamas Cornbread Dressing Ingredients: 2 cups

Mamas Cornbread Dressing

Ingredients:

2 cups chopped onions

2 cups chopped celery

1/2 cup butter

4 cups finely crumbled toasted bread

4 cups finely crumbled cornbread

1 tablespoon salt

2 teaspoons freshly ground black pepper

1 tablespoon dried sage

2 teaspoons poultry seasoning

Turkey broth enough to moisten

4 large eggs, beaten

Directions:

Sauté the Vegetables:

In a skillet, melt the butter over medium heat. Add the chopped onions and celery, cooking until the vegetables are soft and fragrant.

Combine the Bread and Cornbread:

In a large mixing bowl, combine the crumbled toasted bread and cornbread, mixing well.

Add Seasonings and Vegetables:

Add the sautéed onions and celery along with any melted butter from the pan, salt, pepper, sage, and poultry seasoning to the bread mixture. Stir thoroughly to combine all ingredients.

Moisten with Broth:

Using a bulb baster or spoon, gradually add turkey broth to the mixture, adding just enough to make the dressing very moist but not soupy. Finally, stir in the beaten eggs, mixing until evenly combined.

Bake the Dressing:

Transfer the dressing to a large greased baking pan or casserole dish. Bake at 400F for 30-40 minutes, or until the top is golden brown and slightly crisp.

Serve and Enjoy:

Remove from the oven, let cool for a few minutes, and serve this warm, comforting dressing as a delicious side to your holiday meal.
