Texas Sheet Cake

A rich, moist, and chocolatey cake topped with a heavenly fudgy frostingperfect for gatherings!

Ingredients:

For the Cake:

2 cups all-purpose flour

2 cups granulated sugar

1/4 tsp salt

1 tsp baking soda

1/2 cup unsalted butter

1/2 cup vegetable oil

1 cup water

1/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder

2 large eggs

1/2 cup sour cream

1 tsp vanilla extract

For the Frosting:


1/2 cup unsalted butter

1/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder

1/3 cup whole milk

3 3/4 cups powdered sugar

1 tsp vanilla extract

1/2 cup chopped pecans optional

Instructions:

Preheat your oven to 350F 175C. Grease and flour a 13×18-inch baking sheet.

In a large bowl, whisk together flour, sugar, salt, and baking soda.

In a saucepan, combine butter, oil, water, and cocoa powder. Heat until melted and smooth, then pour over the dry ingredients. Mix well.

Add eggs, sour cream, and vanilla extract to the batter, stirring until smooth.

Pour the batter into the prepared sheet pan and bake for 20-25 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.

While the cake bakes, prepare the frosting: In a saucepan, melt the butter with cocoa powder and milk. Bring to a boil, then remove from heat. Gradually stir in powdered sugar and vanilla until smooth. Add pecans if desired.

Pour the warm frosting over the hot cake and spread evenly.

Let the cake cool to set the frosting. Slice into squares and enjoy!
