Hawaiian Sausage Skillet
A sweet and savory tropical-inspired dish ready in minutes!
Ingredients:
1 lb chicken sausage sliced into rounds
1 tbsp olive oil
1 bell pepper red, yellow, or green, chopped
1/2 onion chopped
1 can 20 oz pineapple chunks drain and reserve juice
1/4 cup soy sauce
2 tbsp honey
1 tbsp rice vinegar
1 tsp garlic powder
1 tsp cornstarch optional, for thickening
Cooked white rice for serving
1 tsp sesame seeds for garnish, optional
Instructions:
Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add the sliced chicken sausage and cook until browned, about 5-6 minutes. Remove from the skillet and set aside.
In the same skillet, sauté the bell pepper and onion until softened, about 3-4 minutes.
Add the pineapple chunks and cooked sausage back into the skillet.
In a small bowl, whisk together the reserved pineapple juice, soy sauce, honey, rice vinegar, and garlic powder. Pour over the sausage mixture.
Optional: Mix cornstarch with a tablespoon of water, then stir into the skillet to thicken the sauce. Simmer for 2-3 minutes.
Serve over cooked white rice and garnish with sesame seeds if desired.
