Cinnamon Nutmeg Coffee Cake

Ingredients:

2 cups all-purpose flour

1 cup granulated sugar

1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened

1 cup sour cream

2 large eggs

1 tsp vanilla extract

1 tsp baking powder

1 tsp baking soda

1/2 tsp ground cinnamon

1/2 tsp ground nutmeg

1/4 tsp salt

For the Streusel Topping:

1/4 cup brown sugar


1/4 cup all-purpose flour

1/4 cup chopped walnuts or pecans optional

1 tsp ground cinnamon

2 tbsp unsalted butter, cold and cubed

Instructions:

1 Preheat your oven to 350F 175C and grease a 9-inch round or square baking pan.

2 In a large mixing bowl, cream together the butter and sugar until light and fluffy. Add the eggs and vanilla extract, beating until combined.

3 In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, baking soda, cinnamon, nutmeg, and salt. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture, alternating with the sour cream. Mix until just combined.

4 Pour the batter into the prepared pan and set aside.

5 For the streusel topping: In a small bowl, combine brown sugar, flour, cinnamon, and chopped nuts if using. Add the cold butter and mix with a fork or pastry cutter until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.

6 Sprinkle the streusel topping evenly over the cake batter.

7 Bake for 30-35 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.

8 Let the cake cool slightly, then serve warm with coffee or tea. Enjoy!
