Ingredients:

– 3/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder

– 1 cup brewed strong coffee, cooled

Instructions:

1. Start by preheating your oven to 350F 175C. Grease and flour two 9-inch round cake pans so the cake slides out easily!


2. In a large mixing bowl, combine the all-purpose flour, granulated sugar, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt. Whisk them together until well blended.

3. In another bowl, whisk together the buttermilk, vegetable oil, eggs, vanilla extract, and cooled brewed coffee until smooth.

4. Gradually pour the wet mixture into the dry ingredients. Stir gently until just combined. If you want a deeper black color, mix in the black food coloring at this point.

5. Divide the batter evenly between the two prepared cake pans. Bake in your preheated oven for 30-35 minutes. Use a toothpick to test for doneness it should come out clean from the center!

6. Once baked, let the cakes cool in the pans for about 10 minutes, then transfer them to a wire rack to cool completely.

For the Cream Cheese Frosting:

1. In a large bowl, use a mixer to beat the softened cream cheese and butter together until they are creamy and smooth.

2. Gradually add in the powdered sugar while beating until the frosting is light and fluffy.

3. Finally, mix in the vanilla extract for that extra flavor.

Assembling the Cake:

1. Take one cooled cake layer and place it on a serving plate. Spread a generous layer of cream cheese frosting on top.

2. Carefully place the second cake layer on top of the frosted cake. Cover the entire cake with the remaining cream cheese frosting for a beautiful finish.
