White Queso Dip Mexican Cheese Dip
Ingredients:
– 1 tablespoon unsalted butter
– 1 small onion, finely diced
– 2 cloves garlic, minced
– 1 fresh jalapeño, finely diced optional for extra spice
– 1/2 teaspoon ground cumin
– 1/4 teaspoon chili powder
– 2 cups white American cheese, shredded
– 1 cup Monterey Jack cheese, shredded
– 1 cup whole milk
– 1/2 cup heavy cream
– 1 can 4 ounces diced green chiles
– Salt and pepper to taste
– Fresh cilantro, chopped for garnish
– Tortilla chips for serving
Directions:
1. Sauté Aromatics: In a medium saucepan, melt the butter over medium heat. Add the diced onion, minced garlic, and jalapeño if using. Sauté for 3-4 minutes until softened and fragrant.
2. Add Spices: Stir in the cumin and chili powder, allowing them to cook for 30 seconds to release their flavors.
3. Melt Cheese: Gradually add the milk and heavy cream, stirring continuously. Once heated, begin adding the shredded white American cheese and Monterey Jack cheese, one handful at a time, stirring until fully melted and smooth.
4. Add Chiles: Stir in the diced green chiles and season the dip with salt and pepper to taste. Continue stirring for another 2-3 minutes until the queso dip is silky and combined.
5. Serve: Transfer the queso dip to a serving bowl and garnish with fresh cilantro. Serve warm with tortilla chips for dipping.
