Chocolate Caramel Oat Bars Carmelitas
Ingredients:
– 3/4 cup unsalted butter, melted
– 3/4 cup brown sugar, packed
– 1 tablespoon vanilla extract
– 1 cup all-purpose flour
– 1 cup old-fashioned rolled oats
– 1 teaspoon baking soda
– 1/4 teaspoon salt
– 1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips
– 1 cup caramel sauce store-bought or homemade
– 1/4 teaspoon sea salt optional, for sprinkling
Directions:
1. Preheat the Oven: Preheat your oven to 350F 175C. Grease an 8×8-inch baking dish and line it with parchment paper, leaving an overhang for easy removal.
2. Make the Oat Mixture: In a large bowl, mix together the melted butter, brown sugar, and vanilla extract until combined. Add the flour, oats, baking soda, and salt, stirring until a thick dough forms.
3. Layer the Base: Press half of the oat mixture evenly into the bottom of the prepared baking dish. Bake for 10 minutes, or until the crust starts to set and turn lightly golden.
4. Add the Chocolate and Caramel: Remove the crust from the oven and sprinkle the chocolate chips evenly over the top. Drizzle the caramel sauce over the chocolate chips, spreading it evenly to cover.
5. Top and Bake Again: Crumble the remaining oat mixture over the caramel and chocolate layer. Bake for an additional 15-20 minutes, or until the top is golden and the caramel is bubbling.
6. Cool and Set: Remove from the oven and let the bars cool completely in the pan. If desired, sprinkle with a little sea salt for extra flavor. For clean slices, you can refrigerate the bars for 30 minutes to firm up.
7. Serve: Once cooled and set, slice into squares and enjoy these gooey, indulgent caramel oat bars!
