Italian Easter Cookies

Ingredients:

1 cup unsalted butter, softened

1 cup granulated sugar

2 large eggs

1 tsp vanilla extract

2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour

1 tsp baking powder

1/4 tsp salt

2 tbsp milk

Colored sugar for decoration


12 hard-boiled eggs optional, for decorating

Instructions:

Preheat oven to 350F 175C. Line baking sheets with parchment paper.

In a large bowl, cream together butter and sugar until fluffy. Beat in eggs and vanilla extract until smooth.

In a separate bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, and salt. Gradually add dry ingredients to the wet mixture, alternating with the milk, until a dough forms.

Roll dough into 1-inch balls and shape into rings or braids. If using hard-boiled eggs, place an egg in the center of each dough ring.

Place cookies on prepared baking sheets, spacing them 2 inches apart. Sprinkle with colored sugar for decoration.

Bake for 10-12 minutes or until cookies are lightly golden.

Allow cookies to cool on baking sheets for 5 minutes before transferring to a wire rack to cool completely.
