Peppermint Bark Christmas Candy
Ingredients:
12 oz dark chocolate chips or semi-sweet chocolate chips
12 oz white chocolate chips
1/2 teaspoon peppermint extract optional
6 candy canes, crushed
Instructions:
Prepare the Baking Sheet:
Line a baking sheet with parchment paper or a silicone baking mat to make removal easy and for easy cleanup.
Melt the Dark Chocolate:
Place the dark chocolate chips in a microwave-safe bowl. Microwave in 30-second intervals, stirring after each interval, until the chocolate is melted and smooth.
If desired, mix in 1/4 teaspoon of peppermint extract for an extra minty flavor.
Spread the Dark Chocolate Layer:
Pour the melted dark chocolate onto the prepared baking sheet. Using a spatula, spread it out to about 1/8-inch thickness. Place in the refrigerator for 10-15 minutes to allow the chocolate to firm up.
Melt the White Chocolate:
In another microwave-safe bowl, melt the white chocolate chips in 30-second intervals, stirring between each until smooth.
Stir in the remaining 1/4 teaspoon of peppermint extract, if desired.
Add the White Chocolate Layer:
Pour the melted white chocolate over the cooled dark chocolate layer. Spread it evenly with a spatula, ensuring it covers the entire dark chocolate layer.
Sprinkle the crushed candy canes over the top, pressing them gently into the white chocolate layer to ensure they stick.
Chill and Break:
Refrigerate the baking sheet until the chocolate is completely set, about 30 minutes to 1 hour.
Once firm, break the bark into pieces by hand or with a knife for a more even look.
Serve or Package:
Enjoy this delicious peppermint bark with family and friends, or package the pieces in holiday tins or festive bags to give as a homemade holiday gift!
