Hot Chocolate Poke Cake
Ingredients:
For the Cake:
1 box chocolate cake mix plus ingredients listed on the box to prepare it
1 1/4 cups hot water
1 cup hot chocolate mix
For the Filling:
1 cup sweetened condensed milk
1/2 cup hot chocolate mix
For the Topping:
2 cups whipped cream or Cool Whip
Chocolate shavings or mini marshmallows, for garnish
Directions:
Prepare the Oven and Pan: Preheat the oven as directed on the cake mix package, and grease a 9×13-inch baking dish.
Make the Cake Batter: Prepare the chocolate cake batter following the package instructions, but use hot water in place of the regular water for extra richness. Bake according to the package, until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
Poke Holes in the Cake: Once baked, while the cake is still warm, use the end of a wooden spoon to poke holes all over the surface of the cake, about 1 inch apart.
Add the Filling: In a bowl, combine the sweetened condensed milk and hot chocolate mix until smooth. Pour this mixture over the warm cake, letting it seep into the holes for a rich, moist texture.
Cool and Add Topping: Let the cake cool completely, then spread an even layer of whipped cream or Cool Whip over the top.
Garnish and Serve: For a festive touch, sprinkle chocolate shavings or mini marshmallows over the whipped cream topping. Slice and serve for a cozy dessert experience!
