Valentines Day Sugar Cookies
Ingredients:
3/4 cup Butter
1 cup Granulated Sugar
1 Large Egg
1 teaspoon Vanilla Extract
1/2 teaspoon Almond Extract optional
3 cups Flour plus more for rolling
1 teaspoon Baking Powder
1/2 teaspoon Salt
1 can Vanilla Frosting
Red and pink food coloring
Sprinkles
Instructions:
1. Cream together the butter and sugar until smooth.
2. Add the egg and vanilla extract, mixing well.
3. Incorporate the flour, baking powder, and salt, stirring until everything is well combined; the dough may be soft and sticky.
4. Chill the dough in the refrigerator for at least one hour.
5. Preheat your oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit and prepare your cookie sheet with parchment paper.
6. Roll out the chilled dough to about 1/4 inch thick, using cookie cutters to create heart shapes, placing them 1 to 2 inches apart on the cookie sheet.
7. Bake for 10 to 12 minutes, or until the bottoms just begin to turn golden; the tops should remain mostly white.
8. While the cookies cool, divide the frosting into three bowls, adding pink food coloring to one, red to another, and leaving the last bowl white. Mix the colors well.
9. Decorate the cooled cookies using a knife or piping bag for frosting, and sprinkle with toppings before enjoying!
