Glow in the Dark Candy Apples
Ingredients:
6 large apples Granny Smith or Fuji work best
2 cups granulated sugar
3/4 cup light corn syrup
1/2 cup water
1 teaspoon red food coloring
1 teaspoon green food coloring
1 tablespoon powdered tonic water for glowing effect
1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
6 wooden sticks or popsicle sticks
Directions:
Wash and dry the apples thoroughly. Insert wooden sticks into the tops of the apples.
Line a baking sheet with parchment paper and set it aside.
In a medium saucepan, combine the sugar, corn syrup, water, and vanilla extract over medium heat. Stir occasionally until the sugar dissolves.
Bring the mixture to a boil without stirring. Once boiling, let it cook for about 5 minutes or until it reaches 300F 150C on a candy thermometer.
Remove from heat and immediately stir in the powdered tonic water, followed by the food coloring. Be sure to stir quickly so the mixture stays smooth.
Dip each apple into the candy coating, swirling to coat it evenly. Let any excess candy drip off before placing the apple on the prepared baking sheet to set.
Allow the candy apples to cool and harden for about 30 minutes.
Once the candy is set, place the apples under a black light to see the glowing effect!
