Autumn Spice Leaf Cookies Perfect for Fall Festivities!
Fall is here, and its time to whip up some delightful treats that capture the essence of the season! These Autumn Spice Leaf Cookies are a perfect way to celebrate with loved ones.
Ingredients:
– 3 cups all-purpose flour
– 3 cups powdered sugar
– 1 large egg
– teaspoon baking powder
– teaspoon ground cinnamon
– teaspoon ground nutmeg
– teaspoon ground ginger
– teaspoon almond extract optional
– teaspoon salt
– 1 cup 2 sticks unsalted butter, softened
– 2-3 tablespoons meringue powder
– 4-5 tablespoons water adjust for desired consistency
– cup granulated sugar
– cup packed brown sugar
– Gel food coloring: orange, green, maroon, ivory
– Edible gold paint or luster dust optional
Instructions:
1. Start by creaming together the softened butter, granulated sugar, and brown sugar in a large bowl until the mixture is light and fluffy.
2. Add the egg, vanilla extract, and almond extract if using into the butter mixture, mixing until everything is smooth.
3. In another bowl, combine the all-purpose flour, baking powder, ground cinnamon, nutmeg, ginger, and salt. Gradually stir this dry ingredient mixture into the wet ingredients until a soft dough forms.
4. Wrap the dough in plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 1 hour. This step is crucial for easier rolling and to prevent excessive spreading of the cookies while baking.
5. Preheat your oven to 350F 175C. Once the dough is chilled, roll it out on a lightly floured surface to about -inch thickness.
6. Using leaf-shaped cookie cutters, cut out the cookies and place them on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
7. Bake the cookies in the preheated oven for 8-10 minutes or until the edges are golden. Once baked, allow the cookies to cool completely on a wire rack.
8. To make the royal icing, whisk together the powdered sugar, meringue powder, and water in a bowl until you achieve a smooth and thick consistency.
9. Divide the icing into separate bowls and mix in gel food coloring to create your desired shades: orange, green, maroon, and ivory. Adjust the water in each bowl to reach your preferred icing thickness.
10. Decorate the cooled cookies using piping bags fitted with small round tips. Pipe intricate outlines and designs to mimic lovely leaf details. Add depth by using different colors for the veins and to flood the centers.
11. For an elegant touch, apply edible gold paint or luster dust to the edges of each cookie using a paintbrush.
