Old Fashioned Bread Pudding with Vanilla Sauce
Ingredients:
1 cup heavy cream
4 large eggs
1 cup powdered sugar
1 cup granulated sugar
6 cups cubed day-old bread white or brioche
1 tsp vanilla extract
2 tbsp unsalted butter, melted
1 tsp ground cinnamon
2-4 tbsp milk adjust for desired consistency
1 cup raisins or currants optional
1 cup unsalted butter, softened
1 tsp ground nutmeg
2 cups milk
Instructions:
Prepare the Bread Pudding:
1. Preheat your oven to 350F 175C. Grease a 9×13-inch baking dish.
2. In a large bowl, mix the cubed bread with melted butter. Toss to coat and pour the bread into the prepared baking dish.
3. In another bowl, whisk together the eggs, milk, heavy cream, granulated sugar, vanilla extract, cinnamon, nutmeg, and optional raisins or currants.
4. Pour the egg mixture evenly over the bread cubes, gently pressing down to soak all of the bread. Let it sit for about 10-15 minutes.
Bake the Bread Pudding:
5. Bake in the preheated oven for 45-50 minutes or until the top is a golden brown and a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
Prepare the Vanilla Sauce:
6. In a mixing bowl, beat together the softened butter and powdered sugar until smooth.
7. Stir in the vanilla extract, then add milk one tablespoon at a time, mixing until you achieve your desired sauce consistency.
Serve:
8. Once the bread pudding is baked, take it out of the oven and allow it to cool for a few minutes.
9. Serve warm, drizzled generously with the vanilla sauce. Enjoy!
